Reporting to the Program Manager, Energy Transition, as a motivated professional you will be part of the City Environmental Strategies team responsible for the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Edmonton’s Community Energy Transition Strategy (CETS). The role involves the actioning of the tasks outlined in the CETs with a focus on those actions relating to corporate policy, corporate greenhouse gas management, BOMA Best and LEED, Edmonton’s Sustainable Building Policy and the enabling of green building and renewable energy in Edmonton by stewarding process and policy changes throughout the organization. This includes:
Develop acceptable and supported action plans for implementation of the Community Energy Transition Plan
Develop policy, inform and/or develop bylaws and establish procedures to ensure policy is implemented across the organization
Represente the Energy Transition Unit and/or the City on internal and external committees and task groups
Provide technical and financial analysis expertise while developing the necessary business cases required to advance Edmonton on a low carbon path
Work collaboratively with multiple departments of the City, develop approaches and processes to support the reduction of Edmonton’s carbon footprint and integrate sustainability, energy transition, and climate change mitigation into strategic and operational plans and processes.
Answer inquiries from Councillors, other areas of the organization, and from citizens
Provide environmental and sustainability related technical support and general assistance to other areas of the corporation
Perform environmental and sustainability research
Manage consultants and contracts related to applicable programs as required
Assist in budget preparation as required
Completion of an Engineering Degree with a P. Eng certification in good standing
A minimum of 7 years related experience in project management focusing on any of the following energy systems, renewable energy, or green buildings, including knowledge of local, regional, national and global environmental issues
Knowledge in the specialized fields of greenhouse gas inventorying and management including a comprehensive understanding of renewable energy credits, energy efficiency improvements, and renewable and alternative energy technologies and the policy mechanisms that can be enacted to achieve a low carbon future would be an asset.
Practical experience in developing building cases utilizing the principles of sustainable return on investment and life cycle analysis is an asset
Additional training specializing in facilitation and public administration is an asset
Knowledge of contract management, financial analysis and project/program administration
Excellent oral and written communication and facilitation skills
Understanding of budgeting and financial management processes
Ability to manage change and handle diverse needs and objectives
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Salary: $87,573.980 - $125,105.680 (Annually).
