This is a competitive, multi-stepped and extensive recruitment process. It is your responsibility to address all requirements, be available for assessment dates and meet deadlines. You will be responsible for the costs of some assessments which total approximately $400.
Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Good physical fitness is required - evaluated at fitness test stages
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in english under stressful conditions
Driver's abstract with 7 or less demerits
Motivated with well-developed interpersonal and team skills
Ability to effectively operate under the realities of emergency situations
Strong work ethic
Certifications / Licences Required - Candidates obtaining required certifications / licence by August 1 2017 may be considered with proof of registration.
Minimum Valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s licence with Air Brakes Endorsement (or provincial equivalent)
International Trauma Life Support "ITLS" certificate: ITLS certificate must be valid for 24 months from your application date . Applicants who do not meet the 24 month margin will be given the opportunity to recertify as follows; if your ITLS expires on or before Dec 31 2017, you must provide proof of registration as part of your application. For those applicants whose ITLS expires after Dec 31 2017- you will be required to provide proof of registration prior to the interview portion of this process.
Hearing of thresholds no greater than 30 dB in each ear at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz, unaided
Far visual acuity 20/30 or better in each eye without visual aids, colour vision of minimum pass Farnsworth D-15, and peripheral vision of a minimum 150 degrees with both eyes open and examined together. For any applicant who has undergone laser eye surgery, the vision test (pre-employment medical stage) must be done at least 6 months after the surgery date, and please note that classes could start as early as January 1, 2018

Hours of Work:10 hour day shifts and fourteen 14 hour night shifts, on a 4 platoon shift schedule, averaging 42 hours per week
